PRESS RELEASE
Molex to Receive Emmy® Award for Leadership in the Development of High-Definition Television (HDTV) Technology
LISLE, IL– December 9, 2008 – Molex Incorporated today announced that it will be awarded a Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in recognition of its pioneering connector design for High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI*). The award, which is shared by ten companies involved in the development of HDMI, will be formally presented to Molex at NATAS’s 60th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony, held at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, on January 7, 2009.
As a contributing member of the HDMI consortium, Molex played a pivotal role in enabling the delivery of high-definition content to consumers through the unique electromechanical design of the HDMI connector and cable. Today, HDMI is standard on millions of consumer electronic products worldwide.
We are delighted to be recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for our role in the development of HDMI and its contribution to the advancement of high-definition television. As a driving force behind the growing convergence of computers and consumers, Molex continues to invest in the development of innovative solutions such as HDMI to meet the increasing demand for the next generation of consumer electronics.
HDMI is a small, user-friendly interconnect that can carry up to 5 Gbps of combined video and audio in a single cable. Molex’s HDMI connectors and cable assemblies provide an uncompressed digital link between consumer electronics equipment such as DVD players, set-top boxes and audio/video monitors such as plasma display screens for high-definition TVs. Key features and benefits of the Molex HDMI connector system include: friction-lock design that offers smooth insertion and secure retention; user-friendly design that blends in with today’s consumer electronic equipment; mechanical design enabling high speed serial signal transmission; fully shielded for ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection; and HDMI-DVI cables allow for DVI (Digital Video Interface) backward compatibility.
Molex has been a leader in developing technologies that are advancing high-definition television and computer displays. For example, Molex’s patented technologies have led standards and advances in HDMI, DisplayPort†, DVI and other connector systems enabling high-speed differential signaling in compact spaces.
The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honor achievements in two areas: Science Engineering & Technology for Broadcast Television, which includes broadcast, cable and satellite distribution; and Broadband and Personal Television, encompassing interactive television, gaming technology, the Internet, cell phones, private networks, and personal media players. A blue ribbon panel of industry professionals in Television, Broadcast and New Media reviews and recommends technologies and potential awardees. Launched in 1948, the Technology and Engineering Awards honor development and innovation in broadcast technology and recognize companies, organizations and individuals for breakthroughs in technology that have a significant effect on television engineering.
