TE Connectivity Expanded Heat Shrink Tubing Line with High-Temperature Hot-Melt Adhesive
The Raychem RT-555 line of heat shrink tubing is now available with internal hot-melt adhesive to provide sealing of inline compression joints and terminal lugs. The fluid and temperature-resistant crosslinked fluoropolymer sleeve withstands operating temperatures to 200°C and can handle short-term temperatures to 260°C. The inner wall features Raychem A260 hot-melt adhesive, which melts during the shrink process to provide additional sealing.
The flame-retardant RT-555 tubing offers excellent resistance to high temperatures, solvents, hydrocarbons, corrosive chemicals, and radiation, making it well suited to difficult application environments in commercial, industrial, aerospace, military, and marine markets. The tubing also offers low outgassing, passing NASA's rigorous requirements, and meets FAA flammability requirements of FAR Part 25 Appendix F.
The thin-wall tubing can offer up to 40 percent weight savings compared to similar products made of heavy wall fluoroelastomers, while offering better abrasion resistance, fluid resistance, and high-temperature performance. RT-555 tubing has a shrink temperature of 220°C, and the adhesive requires no curing.
The new adhesive-lined tubing is available in 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, and 1 inch (9.7, 12.7, 19.1, and 25.4 mm) sizes to allow it to be pre-installed over a range of applications. The tubing can be shrunk and sealed with standard heat guns so that no external oven is required.
